NCWIT's November 2008 Meetings were held November 6-7, at the Ada Bryon Research Center at the University of California, Irvine. The theme, "multiple pathways to an IT career." focused on non-traditional pathways or alternative pathways to information technology occupations, a critical avenue for preparing women and underrepresented minorities for the information technology (IT) workforce.

- Ms. JD Hoye, President, National Academy Foundation
Ms. Hoye will discuss her nationwide network of career-themed, college-prep academies and how the career-focused approach can bring underrepresented groups to IT careers. - Dr. Lisa Servon, Senior Research Fellow, Center for Work-Life Policy
Dr. Servon will discuss the Center's latest research on technical women, focusing on women who switch into IT from other functional areas. - Dr. A Nicki Washington, Assistant Professor of Computer Science, Howard University
Dr. Washington will discuss her own path to computer science and alternative pathways to an IT career. - Dr. Belle Wheelan, President of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS)
Dr. Wheelan will make remarks and moderate a discussion on barriers and solutions to leveraging alternative pathways in computing education and the workforce.
